For a while now, we’ve been shooting our mouths off to anyone who will listen, about how too much choice is not necessarily a good thing.
Music streaming is amazing.
To have every song and album we could ever dream of in the palm of our hands is something we could only have dreamed of when we were younger.
And playlists are great, but they aren’t dynamic, they don’t change, so you get bored of them easily.
It’s the same with podcasts and audiobooks.
We have access to everything we could possibly want to ever listen to, and we carry it around with us wherever we go.
But, the harsh reality of this incredible freedom, is something that psychologists call ‘decision paralysis’ - the state of indecision when faced with multiple options.
Rick Rubin articulated this dilemma perfectly in the clip below.
Essentially, this is one of the main reasons we started The Buzz.
We wanted to eliminate the decision paralysis and take the headache away from people, by curating the best music, in the best order, all day, every day.
We all have enough to contend with in our busy lives.
Music should be a joyful thing.
It should be the soundtrack to your life, and not another job on your to-do list.
And the other great thing about radio, over streaming, is that we all get to listen together.
Streaming and podcasts are a solitary listening experience, radio is about community and knowing you’re a part of something that’s happening just in that moment.
Radio connects us.
That can only ever be a good thing.
Take the Totally 80s Quiz. (I scored 19/22).
Thin Lizzy drummer Brian Downey picks his 10 favourite Lizzy tracks, and claims they are as good as anything ever written.
Where are Strawberry Fields?
An incredible cover version of Michael Jackson’s P.Y.T.
Did you know Hans Zimmer was in The Buggles before he went on to score Hollywood blockbusters?
Violet Grohl covered Nirvana’s “Heart-Shaped Box” with her dad Dave Grohl on drums.
